Why addy.io is not a disposable email service

Some websites or blocklists wrongly treat addy.io as a disposable, throwaway or temporary email service. addy.io is not one: it is an alias and forwarding service where you keep long-term aliases that forward to your real recipient inbox. This article explains why addy.io should not be classified as disposable. You can use it when reporting a website that blocks addy.io or when asking a site to allow addy.io addresses.

addy.io should not be classified as disposable

  • Account required - You must create an account and sign in. There is no one-click "throwaway public inbox" without authentication. Aliases are tied to your account and recipients.
  • Unique, account-bound aliases - Aliases are not shared or recycled. Each alias belongs to one account and forwards only to that account's verified recipients. They are not public or temporary inboxes.
  • Forwarding, not storage - Mail is forwarded to your real email address. addy.io is not a place to "use and discard" an inbox; it is a relay so you can use aliases while receiving mail in your own mailbox.
  • Anti-abuse measures - addy.io has terms of use and anti-abuse measures. Bulk signups, spam, phishing and similar misuse are not permitted and can lead to account suspension. Disposable services typically allow anonymous, one-off use without such enforcement.
  • Permanent email addresses - Aliases can be used for as long as you keep your account and the alias active. Many users use the same aliases for years. They are not designed to be "one-time" addresses that disappear after a single use.
  • No multiple free accounts - The terms do not allow creating multiple free accounts to circumvent limits. This supports serious, long-term use rather than throwaway behaviour.
addy.io account and aliases are long-term, not disposable

If a website or blocklist has incorrectly categorised addy.io as disposable, you can report it so addy.io can request a correction. Using a custom domain with addy.io also avoids many blocklists that only target known alias domains.
